Kind Green Buds Forums

Full Version: When is it too late to clone?

As with anything involving a living organism and the genetic
splicing of that organism there is bound to be a window of peak
opportunity that ensures the proper root formation and
success of the clone.

Does anyone know when exactly it's "too late" to take a clone?

And, if possible, what would happen if you tried to clone an actual
bud? would it just stabilize and then keep growing a bud right up out the
growing medium?!?! Tongue hehehe

Promise Im not an Rtard.... just baked and dreaming Smile

i think you can clone at any point before heavy flowering, since the plant dna / genetics shouldnt change throughout its lifespan.. vegetative stage is optimal because you want leaves on your clones..
You cannot clone a plant after it begins the flowering stage. The plant has switched modes from vegetative growth to flowering and this is irreversible. Even the little clone will be in flowering mode already...

At least on the few I have tried...

PS.. this is my first post and I just wanted to say that the CAPTCHA IMAGE on the sign-up is almost unreadable... it took me about ten times to get it right and I refreshed several times... it is way too blurry for most humans.. and I am not color blind... LOL maybe a little *HIGH*

You can take clones @ any time. If you take them during flowering it just takes longer to root.

@BigBob- the only plants where flower is irreversible are autoflowering seeds. Those flower according to age(height) not photo period. You can take a plant that is flowering and pull her out of it simply by changing the lights back to 24h days. It stresses the plant though and the buds that you have on there will get over ripe. But it is possible to pull them out of flower.

Back on subject. Cloning is easiest during veg stage. During this stage the roots are growing into a huge root ball, spreading everywhere. There's not as much root growth during flowering, which is why its harder to clone while flowering, the plant has to switch gears and go back to the veg stage but it doesn't have the roots yet to do that so the clone struggles along and limps until roots start growing. When you clone during veg, the plant is already releasing root hormones so rooting is much faster. Keeping your clone rooting area around 80 degrees will help things move along faster. I usually clone ina small water bath and keep the water @ 80 degrees by using and aquarium heater. Works great.
lol ever heard of a mother plant? you can turn it into a tree and keep it for rootings for years if you keep that plant use the clones for backrossing wich is get some pollen from one of the male plants put it in the freezer backcross it with its original strain then cross the seeds of that with the mixed strain that the plant was mixed with to further propagate the traits of the hybrid plant you have Big Grin its said to take cuttings when its at least and i mean at least at the third node wich is way to young then cut the leaves ie buds off so it has more of a chance to root. it will try nourishing too much of the plantyou want the plant at least a foot tall. ya so you can technically get a bubblegum plant buy the seeds that make bubblegum the 2 strains of cannabis backcross it twice then get some pollen from big bud or og kush try to make it bigger backcross with 2 strains for bubblegum till you get it right potent pink and big and keep going its really cool you should have a make your own seed guide it would be dope wish i could get seeds from amsterdam without worries of getting in trouble and become mad scientist master grower with all the different strains.i just learned of backrossing its cool as heck thats why i like this stuff.but a motherplant can be kept for years taking clones from it taking it in and out of flower and veg till you get the results 1 motherplant can get a tree trunk stalk and grow a whole garden.
