Stressing the plant can make it turn male?
Anyone dealt with this yet? Im about a week away from harvest and I notice a couple of seeds trying to ruin my day. I have not had a male anywhere near it. I have had probs with heat, then possible wind burn(not sure about this). Two of my plants are topped and 1 of them has seeds so I took it early before things got out of hand, hopefully not ruining the others. Any ideas on what happened? If it matters, Im running 1000hps on a Chocalope strain.

RE: Stressing the plant can make it turn male?
The stress of what's sometimes called early flowering triggers the plant into a situation where it thinks its chances of reproduction are slim to none. That situation induces a condition or act of self-pollination, in which the plant produces both male and female flowers on the same plant. The male flowers then pollinate the female flowers, which eventually produce seeds.

The reason for this is that the plant notices that the photoperiod is irregular and should no longer be in the vegetative growth stage but in flowering. This shocks the plant into a last ditch effort to receive pollen because it feels that it\'s missed its chance to receive pollen already. In the wild, males release their pollen just around the time that females begin to flower.

Dont worry about a few seeds. It is ok. If they were in every bud. I know from experience that a female plant will do it every now and then. It has to to with plant survival( basic nature really) it doesnt mean it was pollinated at all. The female plant can do it all by herself. Technical shit-who knows. Experience I have plenty. My females have done this before. Only a very few though in all the flowers of the plant. I have had two plants do it when the other 4 werent and they were all the same strain, grown the same, same lighting! I hope this eases your stress. I absolutely understand it! Peace

RE: Stressing the plant can make it turn male?
i think i might have a related problem. im a cupple weeks away from harvesting indoors and im noticing on a cupple plants some of the nearly mature buds are starting little yellow flowers. I believe i over fertalized them with phosphate a cupple weeks ago but i flushed them good soon as i noticed signes of burning. Are these little yellow flowers a sign of the plant trying to seed its self and turning hermie this late in the game? Cupple weeks befor they are 75% mature? Should i harvest right away or just pick off the flowers? Im a little pizzled on what to do, i have sum really nice buds and dont wana ruinin the rest of the plants that arnt growing these little yellow flowers from the fist size buds. Any one know whats going on?
